Bodyboarding Champs kicks off in Richards Bay

Supporters are urged to go down to the beach this week and catch the sizzling action as the best of the best battle it out.

THE time has eventually arrived for SA’s top bodyboarders to ‘put up or shut up’ at the 29th annual Imperial Nissan Zululand South African Bodyboarding Championships, which launched off today at Alkantstrand.

A total of 21 Bay riders are representing the uThungulu Surfriding team which ends of Friday.

Northern KZN Bodyboarding Association in partnership with sponsor Imperial Nissan Zululand organised the event for the 150 riders competing from eight districts across the country.

Local professional rider Mark McCarthy who is competing in the Pro Division, will look to defend his current title as SABA Champion.

His wealth of experience on the World Tour, along with his knowledge of local surf conditions, could prove the trump card in this hotly-contested Division.

Other big names to watch out for across the board include: Rheinard du Toit (competing in both the Pro and Dropknee Divisions), Jonathan Bernon (looking to stamp his authority on the Men’s Division) and the up-and-coming family prodigies, Alex and Robyn Nutt, representing us in the Boys’ and Ladies’ Divisions.

Supporters are urged to come down to the beach this week and catch the sizzling action as the best of the best battle it out for supremacy.
