Host province Northern KZN Bodyboarding Association will be looking to take the honours at this year’s Imperial Nissan Zululand SA Bodyboarding Champs at Alkantstrand.
The supercharged event takes place from Monday, 5 to Friday, 9 October, providing super entertainment for holidaymakers as seven provinces battle it out for surf supremacy.
Each provincial team consists of 23 members, contesting in eight divisions.
Besides individual titles as riders go head-to-head, the bodyboarders will also be fighting passionately for the Provincial Fishman Trophy.
With more than 180 competitors taking part, along with coaches, support, family and friends, the event will be a bumper boost for sports tourism in the region – following closely on the recent SA Surfing Champs that were also held in Richards Bay.
NKZN Chairman, Nick Phillips is upbeat about the event.
‘The SA Champs, is an excellent way to bring people together in a relaxed environment that will build lasting networks and friendships across the sector.
‘I congratulate the organisers and particularly Team Manager Michael Cooper, Team Captain Mark McCarthy, the technical coordinators Rheinhard du Toit and Jonathan Bernon, and other members of the organising team who have done a great job in putting together the week’s programme.’
SA Bodyboarding Association Chairman, Mike van Huyssteen is also keenly awaiting next week’s action, the fifth SABA circuit event this year.
‘I have no doubt the year will end on a high note with the Imperial Nissan Zululand 2015 SA Champs.
‘The cream of SA Bodyboarding will be here and not only will we be crowning the various division SA Champions, we will also honour the SABA Circuit winners.
‘I have been fortunate enough to have competed in all of the SA Champs starting in 1987 and knowing the hard work put in by locals, I am looking forward to a great event.’
