Tight finishes in soccer finals

Empangeni Preparatory managed a late goal from Ali Jabba against eShowe to secure victory.

EMPANGENI Preparatory (boys) and Felixton College (girls) claimed the U13 Tiger Wheel & Tyre Soccer Tournament crowns on Saturday at Felixton College.

Empangeni Preparatory managed a late goal from Ali Jabba against eShowe to secure victory, while Felixton College’s Courtney Getkate found the back on the net to put St Catherine’s in charge.

Teams were divided into pools and played in 18 minute games.

In the girls semi-finals, St Catherine’s beat Heuwelland Primary School 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw, while Felixton College outplaying Richardia 4-0.

The boys section tournament favourites Grantham Park Primary School were knockout by eShowe 5-4 on penalties after the side was deadlocked at two-all.

The second boys semi-final saw Empangeni Preparatory School drumming Richardia 3-0 to book their spot in the finals.

Competing schools were – Richardia, Felixton College, St Catherine’s, Empangeni Christian School, Grantham Park Primary School, Mtubatuba Christian Academy, Hluhluwe Primary, Grantleigh, Heuwelland, Empangeni Preparatory, Mtunzini, Holy Childhood, Zululand Remedial Centre, eShowe Junior School and Mtubatuba Primary.
