Countdown to SA Bodyboarding Champs in Richards Bay

A total of 150 riders will take part in the competition in October.

WITH less than a month to go, 21 local bodyboarders are gearing up to represent the uThungulu Surfriding team at the 29th annual Imperial Nissan Zululand South African Bodyboarding Championships which will be held at Alkantstrand from 5 to 9 October.

The Northern KZN Bodyboarding Association has been hard at work behind the scenes to make this a memorable event for the 150 riders who will compete from eight districts across the country.

From a local perspective, the main focus will be Zululand professional rider Mark McCarthy who will be competing in the Pro Division, looking to defend his title as SABA champion.

His wealth of experience on the world tour, along with his knowledge of local surf conditions, could prove to be the trump card.

Other big names to watch out for are Rheinard du Toit (competing in both the Pro and Dropknee Divisions), Jonathan Bernon and the up-and-coming Zululand prodigies, Alex and Robyn Nutt.
