De Beer claims hat-trick win

Martin de Beer claimed his third consecutive victory at EFC 43.

EMPANGENI professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Martin de Beer is still on the winning trail.

The Zululand pugilist retained his unbeaten record with a TKO first round victory over Tshilomba Mulumba in a bantamweight fight in Durban on Thursday evening.

De Beer, who weighed in at 59.3kg, had to overcome a quick flurry by his opponent in the first minutes when Mulumba dropped the local fighter by tagging him with a solid blow to the jaw.

But De Beer bounced back, landing a kick to Mulumba’s jaw, which he followed up with a body grab to the ground.

Once on the ground, De Beer was all over Mulumba, landing countless punches to his face.

It took 3 minutes and 24 seconds for De Beer to seal the deal.

Coaches Tienie de Beer (Garage Boys) and David Verster (Lions Den) were pleased with the performance.

‘Martin will take a break now to recover before heading back into training. We aim at fighting again in December or early next year,’ said De Beer.

He has to have another 12 fights before he can challenge for the title, and with four fights a year, it will take a while before he gets his shot.

De Beer was awarded the Performance Fighter Award after the judges watched all 12 fights on the night.
