Baaitjies dominate athletics league

Richards Bay High School currently lead the standings in the Zululand Inter-School Athletics League with one round to go

DEFENDING champions Richardsbaai Hoërskool (Baaitjies) have continued their good form this year, dominating the Zululand Inter-Schools Athletics League.

They managed to win the first league meeting at Grantleigh Schools and the third round on Tuesday at Richards Bay High. Round two at Felixton College was rained out.

Baaitjies managed to claim the win with 301 points, followed by Grantleigh on 225 points.

A total of five records were bettered:

• Tasmin Anderson (Grantleigh) – U15 girls 1 500m in 6:06:35 (previous record 6:07:00)

• Kayla Jansen (Felixton College) – U15 girls 200m in 29:66 (previous record 29:78)

• Dominic Skinner (Richards Bay High School) – U17 girls 200m in 28:47 (29:03) and girls U17 high jump clearing 1.56m (previous record 1.55)

• Bianca Swart (Empangeni High School) – girls U17 shot put 10.92m (previous record 9.37).

The last round will see pupils competing in track events only at eShowe High School next Tuesday 25 August.
