Fine finish to surf champs

Here are all the champions from the Citroen SA Surfing Champs

THE 50th SA Surfing and Masters Championships wound up in hot sunshine at Alkantstrand on Sunday.

And while the waves during the week of the contest did disappoint, this was more than compensated for by the excellent performances by the country’s top surfers – many of whom are multiple national and world title holders.

From an administrative view, the event went off as smoothly as the organisers and main sponsor Citroen SA could have hoped.

With City Mayor, Cllr Mdu Mhlongo present at both the opening and closing ceremonies, the local uThungulu surfriding squad was lavished with praise from Surfing SA for their ability to showcase the sport at its historic 50th final.

The host province was unable to take any titles, but did make a number of semi-finals and finals, coming oh to close to glory in achieving minor placings.

The following surfers were crowned champions in their respective categories:
U/20 Boys – Josh Faulkner (NMB)
U/20 Girls – Nicole Pallet (Eth), who also bagged the highest wave score of the event
Women O/30 – Tasha Mentasti (Pres)
Men O/35 – Manfred Adrio (Eth)
Men O40 – Wayne Monk (BC)
Men O/45 – Rob Moore-Boyle (Eth)
Men O/50 – Dave Malherbe (BC)
