Local hockey talent rewarded

Hockey players Anthony Meij and Warren van der Merwe were rewarded for all their hard work.

EMPANGENI hockey player Warren van der Merwe has been selected for the South African Country Districts men’s team after a standout performance for the KZN Country Districts team at the SA Country Districts tournament played earlier this year.

In addition to this achievement, Zululand Hockey Chairman Anthony Meij was inducted into the Griffons Hockey Club as recognition for all his hard work on and off the field at club, provincial and national level.

‘I am very chuffed with this achievement, as only four Zululanders have been inducted into this prestigious club. It took me 10 SA Country Districts tours to achieve this and I am absolutely honoured,’ said Meij.

Meij also received his Umpiring Level One grading at the SACD tournament this year, which will see him umpiring at club and provincial level.
