Decisive rugby victory for eShowe

eShowe rugby team beat uShaka 64 - 7 in their Weber Cup fixture at the eShowe Sports Club.

BUILDING on their Stewart Shield success, the eShowe rugby team beat uShaka 64 – 7 in their Weber Cup fixture at the eShowe Sports Club on Friday evening.

While all players showed guts in the encounter, Gladwell Maduna stood head and shoulders above the rest.

He ran in five tries for the home team and slotted over seven conversions giving him a personal tally of 39 points.

But rugby is a team sport and without the support of his team mates including Pugs Biyela, who could easily have scored a try himself, unselfishly passed the ball to Mduna to score the try.

Other scorers were Mabusa Sphephelo with two tries, Xolani and Sandiso Mpungose with one try each and Andile Nkonyama scoring one try.

Although the score line may indicate a one-sided match, uShaka did not give up and Ncebo Zulu scored their single try which was converted by Innocent Nkomo in the first half.

At half time, eShowe had crossed the try line four times to uShaka’s one, making the score 28 – 7.

Despite being pressured by uShaka, who let themselves down on too many occasions with poor decisions and handling errors, eShowe opened the taps in the second half dotting the ball down another six times.

eShowe’s next game will be away against Mtubatuba on Friday, 24 July.
