Barnes and Musgrave plough up victory

Phillip Barnes and Ashton Musgrave secured victory at the 15th annual Coastal Farmers Vula Moba golf day held at Felixton Country Club.

LOCAL farmers Phillip Barnes and Ashton Musgrave carded 21 points to plough their way to victory at the 15th annual Coastal Farmers Vula Moba golf day held at Felixton Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Forty farmers took to the course with a shotgun start and followed a Foursomes format over 9 holes.

Jubane Petroleum sponsored the halfway house, where the golfers were kept well nourished.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate the opening of the Felixton Sugar Mill and for the farmers to have a fun, social day.

Despite the water shortage and drought having a huge negative impact on the local farming community, the farmers nevertheless ‘irrigated’ themselves at the 19th hole after the day was done.

The farming season is now open until November.

Byron Mathias and Kevin Schlanders decided to take the scenic route on all the greens, resulting in the pair picking up the Most Golf award.
