Bay boys smash Warriors

Great day at the office for Richards Bay rugby.

IT was a superb day at the office for the Richards Bay 1 and 2 rugby teams on Saturday at home, when both sides demolished South Coast Warriors, placed second on the First Divsion log.

In doing so, the home sides score a total of 15 tries.

The second side crossed the whitewash eight times, with the first side dotting down seven times.

The first team encounter saw Richards Bay coming out with a bang, resulting in a quick try by scrumhalf Dario Shacks to open the scoring for the Bay lads.

South Coast Warriors replied with a soft try to take an early 7-5 lead.

An intercept try under the poles further extended the visitors’ lead to 14-5.

Bay winger Kobus Duvenhage then utilised his speed to score for the home side in the corner, which JP Rossouw failed to convert owing to the pumping wind.

Great team play, with slick ball handling, resulted in Shacks’ second try, which Rossouw converted to hand the home side a narrow 17-14 lead for the second time in the game.

Flanker Mqobi Kunene then crashed over from close quarters, with Rossouw converting to extend the home teams lead to 24-14.

That is where it ended going into the half-time break.

The Bay side managed to keep ball and field possession even playing into the strong wind.

Duvenhage opened the scoring in the second half for the home side after outsprinting a front row forward.

Rossouw converted and the scoreboard read 31-14.

Rossouw then worked a little bit of magic which resulted in a try and another conversion.

Prop forward Juandre Lotriet then wrapped proceedings up when he scored the home side’s seventh try to cement the score on 43-21.
