Good start for Rhinos

Rhinos 1 and 2 will host Newcastle this weekend in their second-warm up fixtures.

VARSITY College Old Boys failed to pull the trigger to stop the ‘Rhino charge’ when they went down 20-15 to the Rhinos in a pre-season warm-up game in Durban on Saturday.

The encounter was very physical, with the home side playing dirty on and off the ball.

Varsity took an early 12-10 lead going into the half-time break after slotting four penalties.

The Rhinos’ 10 points all came from flyhalf Jors Dannhauser – a try, conversion and a penalty.

Rhinos dominated the set pieces, but failing to finishing off and poor defence kept the home side in the game.

But it all came good when scrumhalf Michael Neysschens and indside centre Victor Campher crossed the line to give the Rhinos a 20-12 lead.

Varsity kicked a penalty to end the game at 20-15.

‘I am very proud of the boys, as they have been working very hard. We need to step it up this week though as Premier League rugby is very demanding and of a high standard,’ said Rhinos head coach, Riaan Pienaar.

Rhinos 1 and 2 will host Newcastle this weekend in their second-warm up fixtures.

Rhinos 2 will kick off at 3pm, followed by Rhinos 1 at 5pm.
