Local T20 action kicks off

Local cricket clubs kicked off their T20 season on Saturday.

LOCAL cricket clubs from both the first and second divisions played their first round of the T20 competition on Saturday, which resulted in a total of 639 runs being smashed with the willow.

In the only first division clash played, Village claimed a 22 run victory over hosts KwaMbonambi.

Village batted first and put on a solid 128/6, thanks to Jimmy de Wet (23) and Captain Shaun Booth (43 not out).

Veteran bowler Errol Boullé got reward for putting the cherry in the right spot, ending with figures of 2/17.

KwaMbonambi were confident about chasing the total down, but Beyers Habig throttled the Kwambo lads with his figures of 5/5.

Medium pacer Warren Graff joined the wicket taking party with figures of 3/9.

The second division clash between Thandanani and Mtubatuba Rugby Club, played at uMfolozi, saw Thandanani claim a 16 run victory.

Thandanani headed out to the middle first and posted 114/7 in their 20 overs.

Mtubatuba Rugby Club fell short at the crease, being dismissed for 98.

Richards Bay Rugby Club 2 beat eSikhawini at the uMhlathuze Regional Sports Complex B field.

The game was a low scoring affair.

Richards Bay won the toss and elected to pad up first, kocking up 100 runs thanks to Riekert Viljoen (30) and Hein Kienemunn (48).

Philani Cuambe 1/9 and Bright Nkwanyana 1/19 were the best bowlers for the eSikhawini team.

Morné van Aswerpen 5/22 made sure that eSikhawini did not make the runs, as they were restricted to ???
