Rovers beat uThungulu on home ground

RH Construction uThungulu go down to Rovers at home.

BEREA Rovers managed to sneak over the line by two wickets against RH Construction uThungulu on Sunday at Addison Park in the first Castle Premier League clash of the new year.

Both teams suffered under the scorching sun, which resulted in a low scoring game.

The wicket was a bowler’s paradise, with the outfield being super slow owing to the sand on the field.

This made runs hard to come by, with batsmen having to dig deep for every run.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first.

RH Construction uThungulu was dismissed in the 44th over for 117 runs.

Simon Savides 23, Eugene Zwart 21 and Johnny Riekert 20 were the only batsmen to reach 20 runs and above.

Rovers battled out in the middle to chase down the score.

But thanks to two drop catches, which proved costly, the visitors managed to reach 120/8 in the 42nd over.

Spinners Stephan Joubert 3/25 in 10 and Ryan Smith 2/28 in 10 were the pick of the bowlers.

Paceman, Neill Jordan ended with figures of 2/22 in 10.

uThungulu will certainly look to make amends this Sunday at Addison Park, when they take on DHS Rhythm.

The game starts at 9am, and locals are urged to support the local lads.
