Ison jets-off to defend world titles

Zane Ison will defend his title and four world records at the GPC Powerlifting Championships.

LOCAL powerlifting sensation Zane ‘Iron’ Ison will face the toughest challenge of his career on 28 September to 4 October, when he defends both his title and four world records against 700 athletes from all over the world at the GPC World Powerlifting Championships in Iguaza Falls, Argentina.

Ison jets off to Rio de Janeiro to get the job done next Wednesday.

His achievements include Zululand’s Strongest Man title (2011), South Africa’s Strongest Man Challenge title (2011-2013), World Championship title in Hungary (2013) and four world records at the GPC National Weightlifting Championships (2013).

What makes Iron Ison’s résumé so impressive, is the fact that Big Z only took up the sport at age 41.

‘I would really like to thank Signforce Richards Bay, Bay Hydraulics, Cossa International, Midbay Motors, Dakar Trucking and Xnergy Logistics for helping me achieve my dream,’ said Ison.
