Esikhawini end season in rampant form

Eiskhawini smashed Empangeni 2 65-7 in a Weber Cup encounter

THE eSikhawini rugby squad lit up the night sky at Mick Kelly Park on Friday evening with a spark that ignited from the kick-off, which turned into a flame that burnt for 80 minutes as they they annihilated Empangeni (2) 65-7 in a Weber Cup clash.

The visitors played structured, running rugby, perfecting the basic fundamentals which allowed the backline to run onto the ball at depth, resulting in huge gaps in the Empangeni defence which resulted in a hailstorm of tries.

Mongezi Ngcuka (2), Mdu Khumalo (2) and Xolo Mpanza all crossed the whitewash for the visitors, with Sbo Mthabela converting one try to give the visitors a 27-0 lead going into half-time.

The second half action heated up the spectators on a cold evening, which brought smiles to the faces of the eSikhawini supporters.

Empangeni defended the whole second half, getting 15 percent of the ball, which resulted in a penalty try, which Chinor Mthalane converted to put the home side on the board.

But that’s where it ended for the home lads, with the visitors running in six tries.

Mongezi Ngcuka (2), Sizwe Sibiya, Mdu Khumalo, Refuge Mlambo and Nhalanhla Mzimela all crossed the chalk in the second half.

Sizwe Sibiya, Nhalanla Nene (2) and Spho Mthabela kicked the conversions.

All teams are now officially finished for the 2014 season, but Hluhluwe will be in action this weekend when they take on eShowe in the Weber Cup final.
