The tribe has spoken

Rhinos 1 and 2 went down at home in a Premier League clash against Durban Collegians.

OUTMUSCLED, outsized, outplayed.

One cannot blame the Rhinos rugby squads for perhaps thinking they are contenders in Survivor South Africa instead of the Premier League.

The votes are in and the jury has concluded that the Rhinos 1 and 2 teams need to go back to the drawing board and redesign their game plans after both sides were annihilated in their league clashes at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday afternoon.

This is Rhinos 1’s second consecutive loss this season after College Rovers distinguished their flame in their opening encounter.

Luckily the season has just begun and the sides have games in hand to redeem themselves.

Rhinos 1 conceded the ‘immunity idol’ when they went down 62-3 to Durban Collegians on Saturday, sending them to their second ‘tribal counsel’, where head coach Warren Graff expressed his disappointment with his charges.

The home tribe were outplayed and outmuscled in all aspects of the game.

The visitors crossed the line ten times to rack up a bonus point victory.

Rhinos now desperately need clues to aid them to find the ‘hidden immunity’ with hopes of it coming to their aid later in the season, which will hopefully save them from the promotion/relegation zone.

Brendon Groenewald (3), Ryno Rust, Dougie Walden, Andrew Holland, Kyle Harltey (2), Mynhardt van Schalkwyk and Steve Crouse all crossed the chalk for the visitors, with Calvin Sacks converting four tries and Duncan Campbell adding a conversion to wrap the score up at 62 points.

Dirkie de Waal kicked a penalty to give the home side their three points.

Disappointing start

The Rhinos 2 side took to the field for their first game of the new season, with hopes of getting off to a dream start.

But the Durban-based outfit shattered this dream, winning 38-15.

The home side played a physical game, matching their opponents who are known for their ‘excessive gyming’.

But it was the set pieces and basics that let them down, which the Durban boys outfit exploited.

The first half was evenly matched with the score reading 19-7 at half-time in the visiting tribe’s favour.

Werner Botha, Quinton Hepner and Bruce Khanyile dotted down for the visitors, with Luke Fouché converting two tries, whilst Ross Kayhards scored for the local lads and converted the try.

Allan Zungu found his way to the try line in the second half to wrap the home sides total up at 15 points.

Themba Sishi, Tyler Nel and Cameron Torlage scored tries in the second half, with Fouché converting two to hand their side a bonus point victory.

Men of the matches were – Rhinos 2 Bongs Masinga (forwards) and Allan Zungu (backline); Rhinos 1 Dannie Minnie (forwards) and Dirkie de Waal (backline).

Rhinos 1 and 2 will be at home to Amanzimtoti on Saturday, with the second side kicking off at 2pm and the first side at 3:30pm.

The local band DNA will be playing live music from 5pm in the beer garden with specials at the bar.
