Children join squash league

History was made when children took part in the Summer Squash League for the first time

THE fourth annual Summer Squash League produced sizzling action on the courts which saw local teams sweating it out for the win.

The league was organised by the Empangeni Country Club and Empangeni Rugby Club.

‘Thanks to all the sponsors for getting on board and for making this league possible,’ said organiser Paul Gouge.

Teams that competed in the league were: Ford, Toyota, Zululand Pest Control, Bay Brick, Assegai Motors, UVS, Rodcol, Zululand Observer, Ice For Africa, Moffatt and Grass For Africa.

This competition saw history being made when children participated in the league for the first time in all Zululand squash competitions.

‘Thanks to Mike Hunter, Adam Sobey, Tinus van Wyk and Shirley Carey for helping me organise this competition,’ said Gouge.

The children that participated for the first time were: Basil van der Spuy, Matthew Leslie, Cade Wickham, Keegan Poustie, Jarryd Brink, Matthew Henderson, Tristan David, Jason Rottcher, Darran Brink, Matthew McIntyre, Gorden Leslie and Conner Howes.
