Mud, sweat and gears

Calvin Hume takes first place at the regional Kwazulu-Natal Junior Harescramble Championship

IT was mud, sweat and gears for Zululand’s Calvin Hume in the second round of the regional KwaZulu-Natal Junior Harescramble Championships held at Allerton Farm, Lions River near Howick.

Riders faced a challenging and technical course in the forest and hills and, as the area had 60mm of rain the week before the race, the river crossings were also difficult for the riders.

The course took the top riders 45 minutes to complete the 18 kilometre loop and saw only a few riders complete three laps in the two-hour time limit.

The technical race suited Calvin’s riding style and saw Fastpower Sport Team taking home another 1st place, overall, for the day.

Calvin, in good spirit, assisted one of the top junior riders out of a mud hole, who at that stage, was the leading bike.

So far, Calvin is leading on points for the championship and is planning on keeping it that way.

The next race will take place at the end of April, although the venue is still to be advised.

In this form, Calvin should keep the Zululand flag flying high.
