Fish on the menu

A total of 23 fish were caught at the recent Piet van Rooyen fishing competition held in St Lucia

FISH curry, fish cakes, fish pasta or anything fishy was on the menu for the fishermen who participated in the Piet van Rooyen competition held at St Lucia recently.

The annual competition was fished over two days and with it’s long history, is one of the highlights on the angling calendar.

Competitors from Zululand, KZN North Coast, KZN Central, South Coast and Mpumalanga entered the competition.

Conditions proved difficult with a lot of seaweed, but a total of 23 fish were caught with a weight points total of 231.4 points.

There were 11 edible fish and 12 inedible fish caught.

The final results were as follows:

1 Zululand Shore Angling Association -142.9 points

2 KZN South Coast League – 83.0 points

3 Mpumalanga – 5.2 points.
