Baaitjies end EHS’ dominance

Baaitjies girls are soccer stars

RICHARDBAAI Hoërskool (Baaitjies) managed to put a stop to the Empangeni High Schools (EHS) dominance in the Tiger Wheel and Tyre soccer tournaments when the U/19 girls side took the 2013 title in a nail-biting encounter.

Seven girls schools descended on Felixton College to compete for the coveted title on Friday afternoon.

All games showcased a high level of soccer, with Baaitjies, Felixton College, EHS and Grantleigh battling it out in the semi-finals.

Baaitjies booked their place in the finals by beating Felixton College 2-1 thanks to goals from Lara Otto and Lynette Lotter, with Sena Mqati finding the back of the net for the host school.

EHS walked into the finals after outplaying Grantleigh College 3-0, thanks to goals coming from Sandra Mansvelder and Nokuphila Zobolo (2).

The finals produced steaming hot action, which ended deadlocked at 2-2.

Empangeni’s Porsche Nkosi (2) and Richardsbaai Hoër’s Britney Singh (2) found the back of the net.

Heading into a penalty shoot-out, it was Baaitjies who dominated, netting three goals without reply to take the title.

The competing schools were Felixton College, Birdswood High, Richards Bay Christian School, Empangeni High, Grantleigh College, St Catherine’s and Richardsbaai Hoërskool.
