Richards Bay angler, Anton Lotriet wins the coveted Bassmaster award

ANTON Lotriet ‘attacked the fly’, when he hooked and landed the prestigious Bassmaster award at the recent Richards Bay Bass Angling Club’s 2012/2013 annual prize-giving awards dinner.

The event was held at the Empangeni Bowling Club, where all fisherman were rewarded for their efforts during the season.

The heaviest average bag weight honours went to Lotriet with a total of 98.020 points. Second place went to Frikkie Scheepers with 85.45 points, while Craig Whittaker bagged thrid spot with 79.720 points.

Sandy Lendrum bagged the Angler of the Year award in the ladies’ category, with John Travis landing the Junior of the Year award.

The leading non-competitive angler award went to Kierie Binnedel, who was also ranked fifth overall.

Piet Blignaut managed to win the Heaviest Fish award after landing a whopping 4.6kg bass.

But Bassmaster Lotriet claimed the bragging rights by bagging the heaviest fish in the competition award with a massive 5.04kg brute.

The top team of the season prize went to Team Old Poachers, which comprised of Blignaut and Lotriet with a total of 90.897 points. Second spot went to Team Drifter (Frikkie Scheepers and Craig Whittaker) on 74.058 points, with Team Fly (Louis Grundlingh and Kierie Binedell) finishing third on 55.9 points.

Most Improved Angler award went to Whittaker, with the most Blobs going to Rob Lendrum.

Binedell received the Arsie Fisherman of the Year award.
