BLOGGING THE VIEW: 7 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day on a budget

Left Mother's Day shopping to the last minute? Forgot about it completely? Don't worry, here are 7 easy ways to ensure mom is spoilt on a budget, and in time!

If you’re reading this in a fit of panic, you’ve no doubt forgotten that it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Don’t despair!

You can still show your mom – or mother figure in your life – the love they deserve with some special treats.

The great thing about moms is that they don’t care how fancy a gift is, or if there’s a gift at all, just as long as they’re spending some special time with their beloved children (no matter how old they are!)

Here are some lovely gift ideas that won’t cost too much and can be prepared in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday, 12 May.

1. Surprise outing
Take your mom outdoors for a hike in nature, a jaunt at the seaside, or even a picnic in the garden.

Put together a selection of her favourite treats and a bottle of bubbly (bubbly coke to match the budget), and she’ll be happy wherever you go.

2. Family competition
If your mom has a bit of a sporty, competitive spirit, then maybe a game of padel or some garden badminton is the ticket.

Otherwise dust off those board games and get fun and feisty with a game of Monopoly, round of Go fish, or heated contest of Scrabble.

3. Get cooking
Tell mom that she’s not allowed in the kitchen today and treat her to a full day of cooking!

Start with a cup of coffee or tea, a fry-up breakfast or pancakes, a picnic lunch and afternoon baked goods, and a meal of mom’s choice from whatever is in the kitchen to end the day!

4. Make a coupon book
This is a great option for the younger kids, but honestly your mom will appreciate this even if you’re a bit older!

Put together a coupon book of your mom’s favourite things, such as being treated to a meal or a massage, helping out with some household chores, or taking mom out for a cup of coffee and a catch-up.

5. Craft a hamper
This might be a little bit pricier, but you could head to your nearest pharmacy and put together a basket of at-home spa treatments for your mom to enjoy – she most certainly will!

Bath salts, bath bombs, scrubs, face masks, scented candles, lotions, a bottle of wine… whatever she would enjoy.

6. Make a photo collage
You don’t have a lot of time, so a printed collage might be pushing it.

However, you can scroll through photos on your phone or computer and quickly put together a digital collage.

So often, with digital photos, we don’t take the time to look through them. Using photo software you can put together a lovely stroll down memory lane…

7. Movie day
So often, moms have to sit through endless kids movies and shows, without any say as to what’s being watched.

Not this Sunday!

Give mom the chance to choose her favourite family-friendly movie, or even indulge in a bit of nostalgia as she picks her favourite classic. Pretend to enjoy it!

If none of these work for you, then pick a bunch of flowers and tell mom you picked the flowers so she can pick the activities!

Then treat her to whatever day she wants.
