LETTER: Suburb needs roundabouts

Putting up speed bumps at stop streets seems to encourage yielding at them, but roundabouts slow traffic, they allow people to yield, they decrease the chance of accidents, they don't require wiring for traffic lights and they don't increase the bottleneck leaving and coming into Meerensee.

I am writing in response to your online story entitled Meerensee residents demand robots at ‘death trap’ intersection, published last week.

Putting up speed bumps at stop streets seems to encourage yielding at them, but roundabouts slow traffic, they allow people to yield, they decrease the chance of accidents, they don’t require wiring for traffic lights and they don’t increase the bottleneck leaving and coming into Meerensee.

But, if you’re going to install traffic lights, the intersection needs to have sensors.

The newest traffic light at the intersection of Anglers Rod and Grunter Gully mostly has people waiting for no one. Whoever is in control of the decision making for Meerensee when it comes to traffic control needs to ask the right questions because speed bumps and traffic lights aren’t the answer.
