BLOGGING THE VIEW: The top 10 celebrity baby name fails

It’s been a tough few weeks with the world in turmoil and almost everything seemingly different because of this pandemic. It’s nice to know that celebrities are still doing what they do best – entertaining us whether they intend to or not!

LAST week, South African-born tech entrepreneur, Elon Musk, announced to his 33 million Twitter followers that his latest progeny, a bouncing baby boy, had been named X Æ A-12 (pronounced X-Ash-A-12).

Legally, California only allows the 26 letters of the English alphabet in the name and limited grammatical devices, so whether this is his legal name or not, it’s still a pretty off-the-wall name.

10. Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver; Daisy Boo Pamela Oliver; Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver; and Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver

Celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver and wife, Juliette Norton, certainly went for a pastoral theme for their daughters’ names and went into the toy section for their son, Buddy Bear. Individually, these names are pretty unusual outside of the nursery, but altogether they’re downright odd.

9. Rocket Rodriguez; Racer Rodriguez; Rebel Rodriguez; Rogue Rodriguez; and Rhiannon Rodriguez

The Mexican-American filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez, and wife, Elizabeth Avellán, clearly favoured alliteration. While each name on its own is not vastly unusual, calling these children to the dinner table could prove to be quite a tongue twister.

8. Diva Thin Muffin Zappa; Dweezil Zappa; Moon Unit Zappa

Some might say the instigator of the celebrity bad baby-namer, American musician, Frank Zappa, went all out naming his three bundles of joy.

7. Tu Morrow (daughter)

The fairly obscure American actor, Rob Morrow, and his wife, Debbon Ayer, wanted to make sure their daughter wouldn’t go unnoticed by giving her a timeless name.

6. Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof

The daughter of the late frontman of INXS, Michael Hutchence, and late British television presenter, Paula Yates, was anointed with several interesting names, although she goes by Tiger Lily these days.

5. North West

Reality television star, Kim Kardashian, and rapper/producer/self-proclaimed Shakespeare of our time, Kanye West, were always going to make a splash with their baby name. Nobody thought they’d take this direction though….

4. Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir

Musical hip hop royalty, Jay Z and Beyonce, have followed suit by giving their children suitably unusual yet memorable names.

3. Cosimo and Tuesday

American singer/songwriter and actress, Marissa Ribisi, got quite adventurous with the first child’s name but then lost some inspiration, turning to the calendar to name the second child.

2. Jermajesty Jermaine Jackson

The Jackson family are not renowned for their down-the-line, regular citizen behaviour, so it probably comes as no surprise that Michael’s brother, Jermaine, would name his child something fairly outrageous.

1. X Æ A-12

Yip, Elon and popstar, Grimes’, latest contribution to the celebrity child name game is coming out tops this round. But the year is not even half-way through, so there could still be more exciting baby names in 2020.
