Littering and other social ills

It seems that littering has become a way of life and acceptable as a norm

THE recent cleaning of our beaches yielded ten tons of refuse.

While those who took part in this exercise are to be commended, one needs to ponder the following:

It seems that littering has become a way of life and acceptable as a norm, not only to those concerned, but to the authorities as well.

Should those involved in law enforcement have taken a stand to prosecute the offenders, surely the problem would have been brought under control.

However, nothing seems to happen from those in charge.

By they same token, I also want to highlight other concerns which the authorities do not seem to have control over.

The following incidents happen on a daily basis, with no relevant action being taken:
• The use of cellphones while driving
• Disregarding stop signs
• Passing through red traffic lights

It is sad to see those who are responsible include law enforcement officials themselves.

How many prosecutions have taken place pertaining to the above? Could someone in authority provide some information on this?

Officials, if you want us to clean up our beaches, towns and streets, then clean up your act and take some responsibility.
