Rumbling in the jungle without headgear

Though I am no expert on the sport by any means, I was astounded that this most basic safety precaution was not being taken.

I NOTED with disappointment that your coverage of the school-boy boxing tournament at Richards Bay High School (ZOM, 19 October 2015) featured young men wearing no protective headgear.

Though I am no expert on the sport by any means, I was astounded that this most basic safety precaution was not being taken.

I wonder if the parents of these young men have spoken up on the matter, and I would be interested to hear feedback from those within the sport and the Zululand Observer community.

Surely it is our responsibility to ensure that our young children are protected when playing sport? And it is certainly the responsibility of those who are administering to ensure that these young sportsmen are as safe as they can possibly be, considering this is an especially violent sport that entails repeated blows to the head.

I await further comment with interest.

NO BOXING FOR MY SON, THANKS
