The affected area is over the south-eastern parts of KZN.

Potential impacts are flooding of roads, bridges and settlements; danger in fast-flowing streams or deep waters; major disruption of traffic flow; disruption of essential services and damage to infrastructure and mud-based homes.

“Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles,” warned SAWS.

“If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level and switch off electricity at the building’s supply point,” they added.

“In rural areas protect or relocate animals to a safe place higher ground,” said SAWS.

Affected municipalities include uMhlathuze, uMlalazi, KwaDukuza and Mandeni on the KZN north coast.
