Calls for pet vaccination amid rising rabies cases in KZN

Department of Agriculture undertaking mass rabies drive across King Cetshwayo District in a bid to curb this deadly disease

AGRICULTURE MEC Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa has called on all pet owners to ensure their cats and dogs are vaccinated against rabies.

With 11 recorded positive dogs to date in King Cetshwayo District, this dread disease is deadly to humans when bitten or attacked by a rabid animal.

The department has embarked on an intensive vaccination campaign across King Cetshwayo District in an attempt to curb the spread.

Vaccinating animals against rabies regularly is not just advisable, but is a legal requirement for all pet owners.

Some of the areas to be visited in the City of uMhlathuze include Ngwelezana township, Matshana, Bingoma, Mankwavanene, Nkosazana, Madlankala, Gobandlovu, eNseleni township, Mazimazana, Mhawu, Sibonokuhle, Mayini Mkhanango and Bhekani.
