WATCH: Measures taken to shore up beach in front of Alkantstrand lifeguard building

Truckloads of rocks are being delivered to Alkantstrand in an apparent effort to protect the beach's lifeguard building

In an apparent attempt to protect the newly-renovated lifeguard building at Alkantstrand in Richards Bay, rocks and geobags are being placed between the building and the beach.

This as the paving directly in front of the lifeguard building, re-laid in recent months, has already begun to collapse as the power of wind and waves takes its toll.

The operation began on Tuesday with the delivery of rocks to Alkantstrand. Once laid, more geobags will be added.

It is believed this is being carried out as part of beach readiness plans for the upcoming summer and festive season.
