Seafarers well catered for in Richards Bay port

Local Mission to Seafarers goes above and beyond to make visiting seafarers feel 'at home'

The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) chaplain’s report for August reveals another busy and productive month in providing for the needs of sailors visiting the Port of Richards Bay.

There were 23 visits to ships, where church services were conducted and 394 resources, including Bibles, Christian material and newspapers were distributed.

Crews often look happy but this belies the tough conditions they sometimes endure

Free wi-fi usage was provided and some vessel crews received food, fruit, clothing and teddy bears.

A delegation from the MtS International head office was hosted in August.

The Seafarers Centre was a hive of activity in August, with 517 seafarers visiting and 493 crew members transported, while 984 online orders were placed.
