Police officer accused of assisting in ‘prison break’

THE State and defence will on Friday give closing arguments in the court matter of a suspected dangerous prisoner who is in the dock for escaping from lawful custody in February.

Sabelo Gumede, who was an awaiting trial detainee for murder, attempted murder and robbery, escaped from the KwaMsane Police Station holding cells on 26 February.

He has alleged that a police officer assisted in the escape.
