Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said priority has been placed on rescuing stranded motorists and allowing disaster management teams to bring in much-needed relief.
“Despite small pockets of success in terms of clearing the snow, people are requested to stay away from some of the major routes affected by the snow in order to remain safe,” said Duma.

Mass power outage
Meanwhile, Eskom KZN said it is working on restoring electricity supply to a number of communities who have been affected by a mass power outage due to the inclement weather conditions.
“Due to the large number of faults, customers may experience delays in restoration, but all faults will be attended to as soon as possible,” the power utility said in a statement.
Parts of Empangeni, Pongola, Ulundi, Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe were among those affected.
“Technicians are on standby to attend to the faults once there is access. Access is hampered due to road closures. Eskom appeals for patience from our customers as restoration may take longer than usual,” Eskom stated.
