Thieves target Hospice vehicle

Break-in at Zululand Hospice Association's Empangeni premises

They say a good deed never goes unpunished.

And that is surely how the staff and volunteers of Zululand Hospice Association felt after a recent break-in at their Empangeni premises.

A break-in to their Nissan NP200 bakkie’s side window resulted in the loss of the jack, the spare wheel, a rim and a spanner.

Hospice’s car insurance covers fixing the small side window, but the co-payment is R3 000 for replacing the stolen items; an unaffordable price for the palliative care centre.

A new tyre will cost the NPO R1 800 and a new rim R800.

“It is terrible. We can’t keep our vehicles here now,” said Zululand Hospice fundraiser Engela Borlase.

For safekeeping, the staff is parking the four Hospice vehicles at another location.

How you can help

Hospice requests any help or donations towards replacing the bakkie’s essential items, and appeals for sponsors to assist in making the premises more secure.

Anyone who can assist can email Zululand Hospice at manager@zululandhospice.org.za or call GM Christine Samuel on 082 4616382 or Engela on 073 2384382.
