Thunderstorms predicted for central and northern KZN

South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level two warning for severe thunderstorms

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level two warning for severe thunderstorms expected for central and northern parts of KZN tomorrow (Monday).

This warning is valid from 11am to 4pm and is predicted to be accompanied by damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours.

Possible impacts include:
• Damage to infrasture, settlements, vehicles, livelihood and livestock

• Flooding of susceptible roads

• Injuries, danger to life and power surges due to lightning

Residents are urged to avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding.

Owing to the risks involved outdoor activities should be halted as lightning, hail and flooding can result in injuries and extreme cases, death.

It is advised that people residing in the central and northern parts of KZN stay indoors, steer clear of windows and ensure their pets, livestock and vehicles are sheltered and safe as there may be flying debris.
