Bail denied for murder accused

He was formally charged after a post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation

A MTUBATUBA man who was arrested for strangling to death his lover on 15 August was on Tuesday denied bail at the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court and the matter was moved to the Mtubatuba Regional Court.

Sibusiso Nyawo is scheduled to appear at the regional court on 11 October.

The police in the area have strongly condemned the woman’s murder during Women’s Month and said acts of GBV against women are an indictment on society.

Nyawo made his first appearance at the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court last Monday and was remanded in custody for a bail hearing.

He was formally charged after a post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.

Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa urged men to love and protect their partners rather than cause them harm, and when disputes escalate, they should seek professional help or even call the police.

“We urge people to quit their relationships when they become violent and abusive, just leave rather than hurting another person,” said Hlabisa.
