Dagga seized from pupils during police school operation

Marijuana, other 'unwanted items' confiscated from pupils during police operation

Dagga and other ‘unwanted objects’ were found on school pupils during recent SAPS operations at schools in Mtubatuba.

On Thursday, KwaMsane SAPS conducted school safety operations at Ikusasalethu and Mgwazeni high schools, where illicit goods and objects were recovered from some school pupils after they had been searched.

Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa said the SAPS were accompanied by traffic police, correctional services officers and an inmate during the operations.

The first stop was at Ikusasalethu High, said Hlabisa, where dagga was seized from pupils, and an awareness campaign was rolled out by the police and the inmate.

“The convict, who was accompanied by correctional services officers, addressed learners and spoke to them about how difficult life is in prison. He advised them against a life of crime,” said Hlabisa.

The operation then proceeded to Mgwazeni High, where searches were conducted and a similar awareness campaign rolled out.
“At Mgwazeni, some girl pupils were found to be in possession of dagga and unwanted objects,” said Hlabisa.
