Tributes pour in for respected uMfolozi municipal manager

Tributes pour in for uMfolozi Municipal Manager Khulumokwakhe Gamede

uMfolozi Municipality is mourning the loss of its municipal manager (MM), Khulumokwakhe Gamede, who sadly died in hospital in the early hours of Sunday.

It is reported he succumbed to an illness which affected Gamede in 2013 and returned in June this year.

The sad news was on Monday confirmed by Mayor Xolani Bhengu who described Gamede’s passing as a ‘huge loss to the residents of uMfolozi’.

Bhengu said Gamede had great respect for all councillors, treating them as equals.

“We wish to convey our condolences to his family, including his mother. I believe he will be laid to rest this week in his hometown in Mnambithi (Ladysmith), said Bhengu.

Gamede was previously a member of the KZN Netball Federation where he served as a treasurer. Before this, he served as a Umpires Director in KZN, national and international.

KZN Netball Federation president Gugu Ngema said they were ‘very shocked’ about the news of his passing.

“We were just recouping from the devastating passing of our executive member Phindile Thusini,” said Ngema.

“Gamede could not even attend her funeral as he was at the hospital. As we were trying to accept the loss, we have lost another one.

“We wish to convey our sincere condolences to his family, uMfolozi Municipality and the netball fraternity,” he said.
