Philanthropy and pleasure at Tea on the Terrace – save the date!

The annual Dice (Do I Care Enough?) Tea on the Terrace promises to be particularly inspiring with guest speaker Christina Reddy

The date has been announced for the annual Dice (Do I Care Enough?) Tea on the Terrace, a highly popular social gathering for ladies who seamlessly blend philanthropy with pleasure.

This marks its milestone 10th year scheduled for Saturday, 7 September 2024 from 10am to 12.30pm at the new sponsored location courtesy of Thembela Venue, themed ‘I’m Every Woman’.

This honours the multifaceted role of women as mothers, professionals, caregivers, and community leaders.

How it works

The fundraiser format will see groups of friends meeting in the morning to decorate their tea tables in a unique style, selecting their table theme, décor, and catering.

This transforms the venue into a riot of colour as beads, feathers, antique crockery and cutlery, blooming centrepieces and fairy lights magically appear out of Mary Poppins-like bags.

Guests often dress up to match their themes, donning pith helmets, feather boas and cowboy boots, leading to more fun and laughter.

Those showcasing their tables will be in the running for the coveted Ubuntu Floating Trophy, symbolising the spirit of ‘ubuntu’.

In the words of Tea on the Terrace patron and Zululand Observer founder, Regina Anthony, ‘There is a heartbeat reverberating throughout Zululand known as ‘ubuntu’. This concept reflects humanity towards others, encapsulated as ‘I am because we are.'”

Beneficiaries of the event

The event raises funds towards the treatment of cancer patients and ongoing Dice projects celebrating the resilience of cancer survivors, patients and their families.

Last year’s proceeds were donated to the Butterfly Palliative Home, which is the first and only registered children’s hospice based in the rural community of Ingwavuma.

The hospice provides end-of-life care to young children with severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

Christina Reddy, the first female Executive Director on the Amazon Data Services board in South Africa, will be the guest speaker for this year’s Tea on the Terrace event.

Unmissable guest speaker

This year’s event promises to be particularly inspiring with Christina Reddy, the first female Executive Director on the Amazon Data Services board in South Africa, joining as the guest speaker.

Reddy began her career 23 years ago in Richards Bay with BHP Billiton, advancing through various roles.

She later moved to Transnet, where she served as a Senior Operations Leader before assuming her current role.

Beyond her career, she is mother of two and has been married for 19 years.

Christina, who serves on the Dice board, is passionate about empowering women in leadership globally, particularly in the demands of AI and machine learning.
