Get ready to step back in time at the running of the third annual King Cetshwayo July horse racing extravaganza.
Hosted by King Cetshwayo District Municipality, this annual event will this year be held on 26 and 27 July under a ‘Bridgerton – the Regency Era’ theme. The two-day line-up promises an array of exciting activities, kicking off on Friday with a street carnival parade, starting from Empangeni Civic Centre at 11am.
Adding to the festive atmosphere is the Mr & Miss King Cetshwayo July pageant, held at Umfolozi Casino at 6pm, showcasing local talent.
All eyes turn to the Empangeni Airfield at 9am on Saturday for the drawcard horse race event.
With a substantial R300 000 cash prize awaiting the victor, this race is set to thrill spectators and participants alike.
The King Cetshwayo July celebrates the legacy of King Cetshwayo kaMpande, for whom the district is named, and aims to preserve Zulu tradition through indigenous horse riding.
Acting district mayor, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini is working closely with horse racing authorities and other partners from the five local municipalities to host the event.
Last year’s event was highly successful, with every hotel in the City of uMhlathuze booked out, and this year promises to be just as dazzling.
Inspired by popular Netflix series Bridgerton, ladies are invited to don wide-brimmed hats and elegant dresses, while gentlemen are encouraged to dress in waistcoats and cravats, reflecting that time.
From Friday’s carnival parade to Saturday’s horse racing extravaganza, the King Cetshwayo July promises a weekend brimming with energy and festivities.
