Dumped medical supplies sparks urgent investigation

Empangeni residents discovered medical waste dumped in the bushes

Medical supplies found dumped in the bushes in Empangeni last week sparked an investigation by the relevant authorities, with employees responsible facing disciplinary action.

On Monday last week, residents uncovered the boxes marked PathCare in 6th Street and reported the matter.

According to PathCare, the dumped waste has since been collected and taken to an accredited facility for disposal.

“It is with shock that we were recently made aware of the unauthorised disposal of general waste by an employee in Empangeni. This is not in line with PathCare values as we strongly adhere to environmental legislation and regulations, including the correct disposal of general waste through accredited waste facilities.

“PathCare has taken immediate action to address the situation. The staff member will face the necessary disciplinary action.

“We will audit all facilities to ensure adherence to general and healthcare waste disposal policies and regulations.

“PathCare will continue to act as a responsible corporate citizen and we will address any findings of the investigation to rectify the situation and prevent it from recurring,” said PathCare chief operating officer Neil Gregory.
