Cupcake drive in Richards Bay to support little boy diagnosed with leukaemia

There is something truly special about the way children are empathetic to others.

Jenice Slabbert is a remarkable little girl who, when hearing about her best friend’s brother, Luanru Smit, being diagnosed with leukaemia, spent time thinking about how she could help.

“We were at home having a braai when she came up to us, explaining how she had this idea to sell cupcakes to raise funds,” said Jenice’s mother and ZO graphic designer, Benice.

In a bid to make her daughter’s request a reality, Benice called on the ZO’s charity arm Dice (Do I Care Enough?) and Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre.

Grateful to lend a helping hand, both teamed up with the Slabberts to assist young Luanru.

A cupcake drive was hosted on Saturday in support of the cause.

“The support from the community was amazing. For example, some people purchased only one cupcake but paid 10 times the price,” said Benice, thanking all who came out in their numbers to donate to this worthy cause.
