Esikhaleni taxi drivers talk road and passenger safety

Taxi drivers celebrate Youth Day with serious talks

Bringing dignity to the taxi industry, understanding and obeying road rules, as well as treating passengers with respect were some of the points discussed when eSikhaleni taxi drivers commemorated Youth Day last Monday.

Under the banner of ‘Abaphathi Bezimpilo Zabantu’, drivers not only celebrated the day but shared some valuable information on how they can improve their work ethic, attitude and behaviour.

At the forefront of discussions was ensuring the safety of passengers.

Issues such as cleanliness of drivers and their taxis were also discussed, while leaders emphasised the importance of working together with communities they serve.

“We are not old drivers who used to be angry and beat people up. We want our passengers to be well taken care of, and to do that we need to teach each other well,” said Mbongeni Makhathini.

Following all the formalities, the new driver’s T-shirt was launched before they were all treated to a delicious braai.
