Help Zululand Hospice continue caring for patients

Community urged to support Zululand Hospice to continue providing care to patients with life-threatening illnesses

Illness, death and grief touch everyone and it’s important to have support during this difficult time.

Since 1991, the Zululand Hospice Association has provided quality palliative care to patients with life-threatening illnesses.

Founded under the umbrella of the Hospice Association of KZN, the NPO falls under the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa.

The care offered includes home-based care to adults and children at no charge.

The interdisciplinary team evaluates and sets up a specific care plan for each patient to suit their needs, with the family forming an integral part of the team.

This includes helping patients with life-limiting illnesses, and helping their families cope by supporting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs in the final stages of illness and dying.

The care provided by hospice includes provision of food, nappies, sanitary pads, blankets, mattresses, linen savers, caregivers and medical equipment.

A doctor will administer pain medication, with further assistance provided for counselling, grant support, clinic referrals, and daily checks by nursing teams.

All of this important work is supported solely by donations from the public, with the demand increasing after the pandemic.

How you can help

Willing members can assist by volunteering administrative services at the Hospice house in Empangeni.

Any assistance in nursing care and social work is welcomed. Hospice also generates funds through its charity shop, and help running the shop is appreciated.

Donations of goods for resale or support with funding is also welcomed.

Anyone who can assist can email Zululand Hospice at manager@zululandhospice.org.za, visit them at 18 Turnbull Street Empangeni, or call 035 7724910.
