Mtubatuba police arrest man for selling land claim forms

Suspect arrested for selling land claim forms in Mtubatuba

Mtubatuba police have urged locals to proceed with caution after a 39-year-old suspect was last week arrested for selling land claim forms.

The police station in town was overwhelmed with locals queuing to complete affidavits and land claim forms for an ongoing process.

Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa said a suspect was arrested on 29 May for selling land claim forms to those in the queue for R20 to R50 each.
“The suspect was arrested for fraud and appeared in court the next day,” said Hlabisa.

He said such forms, including official documents like affidavits which need certification, are not sold by any individual but are available at the relevant government departments.

The National Prosecuting Authority could not confirm whether or not the suspect was released on bail.
