Melmoth Regional Court this week convicted and sentenced Thamisanqa Shandu to 10 years’ imprisonment, half suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of the same offence or an attempted murder.
Shandu was accused of stabbing to death Khayelihle Biyela multiple times on 11 November 2023.
He appeared before the court last Thursday. The court heard that on the day of the incident, Biyela of Thubalethu township outside Melmoth was stabbed multiple times and left to bleed to death.
A case of murder was registered at Melmoth Police Station for investigation. On the following day, Melmoth station commander Lieutenant Colonel Msibi received a phone call from a Shandu requesting police to arrest him for a murder incident.
Two police officers were dispatched to fetch Shandu and he pleaded guilty to the count of murder.
