The City of uMhlathuze has issued a scam alert and urged residents not to fall victim.
According to a post on the municipality’s Facebook page, residents are receiving calls or WhatsApp messages from people claiming to represent the city.

“The caller(s) demand customers to pay a certain amount of money to them, to avoid disconnection of services.
“Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and report such cases. Please note that the City of uMhlathuze’s appointed contractor does not contact customers regarding their accounts, except to implement the instruction given in terms of restrictions/disconnections of services,” said the city.
