WATCH: Municipality investigating Empangeni substation fire

The City of uMhlathuze has dispatched its electricity and energy team to investigate the cause of a fire that broke out at a substation in Empangeni earlier this morning (Wednesday).

The affected substation is at the corner of Higgs and Segar roads, plunging the immediate area into unscheduled darkness as it exploded.

Municipal Fire & Rescue members arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze.

According to municipal communications manager Bongani Gina, the process will be sped up to restore power to all affected areas.
