While a group of young men were on their way back home, they came across Ntuthuko and informed him that the function had ended.

An argument broke out between Masuku and Ntuthuko, and the group went to intervene as they witnessed Masuku stabbing Ntuthuko in the back and moving to lean against the fence.

When Mzikhona tried to help Ntuthuko, Masuku stabbed him in the back and the neck before fleeing the scene.

Both Mzikhona and Ntuthukho were rushed to Eshowe Hospital.

Ntuthuko was treated and discharged, but Mzikhona died at the hospital the following day.
