According to the water board, its water supply systems are currently at 99.7% as per the weekly report on the status of dam levels.

The Department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa says the unpredictable weather patterns as a result of climate change should be a constant reminder that ‘every drop counts’.

“We all have a responsibility to preserve this precious resource, even when some dams are close to full capacity across the province. Dams may be full today, but extreme heat resulting in water evaporation remains a serious concern for us,” said Mavasa.

She encourages residents to report and fix household water leaks, while the department is taking measures to effectively implement bulk water projects to ensure consistent and reliable supply.

Unchanged this week was Goedertrouw Dam at 98.4% while the Hluhluwe Dam dropped from 99.9% last week to 98.7%, Klipfontein was at 100.3% and declined to 99.7% this week as well as Pongolapoort dams with a slight decline of 1% from last week now at 81.4%
